About DDC & SHPE Outreach
What is Día de Ciencias?
Día de Ciencias is an event for K-12 students and their parents made possible by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and its sponsors. This year DDC will bring students together to engage in STEM material with hands on activities/demos.
DDC Event Mission:
Increasing the enrollment of underrepresented high school students into higher education. The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers will present informational workshops that will familiarize both students and parents with college and STEM majors.
Who are we?
SHPE at UCR inspires the future generation of Hispanics to become the next leaders in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields through resources, professional development, and STEM awareness.
Our vision is "to see Hispanics as innovators and scientists in the U.S., and eventually the world.” As a student chapter, we believe that academic and outreach success can bring awareness to the Hispanic community to develop the next generation of STEM Hispanic professionals. Giving back to the community is one of the vital steps towards this goal.
SHPE Ciencias Outreach focuses on teaching and inspiring young students so that they are comfortable with STEM subjects and see them as a tangible avenue for a college major and career.
